Pincoya by Carlos-the-G Pincoya by Carlos-the-G
This is from an old legend from the island of Chiloe, in southern Chile.

The Pincoya is a female ghost who protects the fishermen of Chiloe. Should a fisherman drown, the Pincoya takes his soul to the "Caleuche", a large ghost ship, where he'll spend the rest of eternity partying with the souls of other drowned fishermen (No, really. That's how the legend goes).

It's pretty.
Are you doing a series of drawings based on legends?

I wasn't planning on doing that but then I though "what the hell, why not?"

Seems like every country has its Siren myth.

Although she is not really a mermaid... but there are also some mermaid myths in there somewhere.

Actually I meant the whole 'alluring maiden' myth: In slavic countries you have the Rusalka or in Middle Europe the Glaistig. In Greece, it was the Siren or Mermaid, in Japan its the Yuki-Onna.

Thats just what I meant. Sorry for being overly pedantic :)

Okay, that answer was messed up, let me start this again.

She is not really a mermaid but they also have some mermaid myths involving her.

A very interesting legend. Reminds me of Vikings and Walhalla.
