I fucking hate cartoons. No, I'm not talking anime but more the traditional kids cartoon.
Apart from some notable exceptions like Rocco's modern life and Ren & Stimpy, the world of children's animation has been filled with Biker Mice From Mars, Captain Planet (aka- the flying green mullet) and Avatar (I know I'll cop flak for this, but I fucking hate it).
Frankly, children's cartoons have never been very good. Look at the old Hanna Barbera stuff. Sure, it's great for nostalgia but it's hardly what you'll call quality...
Anyway, cartoon sucks... or do they? So the other day I turn on ABC3 and I've come across and interesting little cartoon called Kid vs Kat... it's awesome! The artwork is so charming! Truly a lonely shinning gem in a cesspit filled with Ben 10 and Kim Possible(I fucking hate them too... get over it)... except, that it is not alone! The other day I turn on to channel 7 and found a rather unusual French/Australian production called Sally Bollywood... and I love the artwork like you wouldn't believe! It's cartoony. Really cartoony. I heart it so much! Nice bold colours, lovely character design and simple, yet stylish animation.
So there you have it, two little gems that have brought my faith back to the world of animation and dare I say, inspired me a bit.
