Right. So here's my idea.
Since making a webcomic is time consuming and does cost a bit of money, I was thinking of adding a donation button (in exchange for rather naughty pictures of the comic characters) to the website. Problem is that Paypal doesn't like me... and I don't like them either.
Well, you see, when I tried opening an account with them, they said that I had the same name as a criminal in the USA. Like I care. But then they proceeded to ask me to fax them a copy of my drivers license as proof of identity... to the USA.
Call me paranoid, but sending sensitive, private information to some foreign private company in some foreign country does not strike me as the smartest of moves.

So, does any one know of a service other than Paypal that I can use to set up a donation system?

-UPDATE_

Right, I got a donation button up but with no incentive.... oh well. Can't have everything.

Yeah- they're starting out carefully, working their way through banking regulations, which are incredibly torturous and complicated- by design of the big banks, who don't want competition.

I went ahead and checked online for you, and found out that there's a couple of others (other than Paypal) that allow for donations into a checking account (just in case you don't have a vendor account). This is the website I found for all of the information: [link]

One is Google Checkout at checkout.google.com with this as the description:
Google offers their Google Checkout service for free to nonprofits they’ve approved for a Google Grant (their non-competitive grants www.google.com/grants/ for Google Ads and other things). This means that you literally pay nothing, including transaction fees – which is a hard price to beat. However, the flow isn’t optimized for donations – it forces the user to create a Google Account, and to associate a credit card with their Google Account, before they can get on with actually making a donation. It’s a flow that may be confusing to less tech-savvy donors – and if people don’t donate, it doesn’t matter how free it is.

A second one I found is Amazon Payments at [link] with this as the description:
Similar to Google Checkout, Amazon offers a payment tool optimized for e-commerce rather than donations… but at 1.9% +$0.30 per transaction, it’s also very inexpensive. Like Google Checkout, donors need to sign in to Amazon and setup their credit card before they can fill out the donation form. This may confuse donors without an Amazon account, but Amazon is widely used enough that many of your donors may already have one.

For the people (like myself) that might not have an account, just a button telling where to send the money by Western Union (Name, city, state and zip code) would be more than enough information, and they can send you an email so that any security questions can be relayed to you with the answers so that it's just that much more secure.

Yeah, unfortunately none of them offer a system where I can display borderline porn images at the end of the transaction...

Hmm, well then how the heck do all those amateur internet porn websites accept credit card payments? They must have created an account with a bank that allows for being a vendor/seller without using Paypal or anything like that.

I have an idea, ask :iconjollyjack: what he does, because I know he sells some of his work on E-bay, but also has comics he creates that have gratuitous nudity and sex. He could probably tell you exactly how he gets money for his artwork.

He uses Lulu for his Aspara stuff. Not that I would know from personal experience or anything. >.>

Ahh, gotcha.

actually, the lulu is for sequential art, the sketch books, and the comics. Last i checked (cause I would love a hardcopy of the aspara portfolios) the aspara's are on a digital down load.

That makes two of us. Sadly, I'm not sure if he does anything other than digital download for the Aspara comics. I'm pretty sure that anyone who buys them can print them out for their own little collection, just they're not permitted to resell them. If not, then I have no doubt that some people have sticky keyboards.

=O.O= *shudders at the thought*

But I think we're getting a little off the subject of how to go about getting you donations. I think I've just found a way for you to go about getting those donations, although it would require me to link up with someone and ask him a little bit about how he gets people to buy his stuff... or if you want you can ask him directly. His name is Jay Naylor and he has his own Adult Catalog, but he doesn't use paypal or anything like that. I think it's a direct charge that goes into his bank account, so your best bet would probably be to go ahead and talk to him about how he started that up. I'm pretty sure he'd help out a fellow artist, he's a really great guy.

Well damn, I was wrong. Just looked again (it's been a while since I checked out the aspara files). I guess you purchase through Lulu, then get to download them in a pdf format.

the old school way would be western Union, or send money to the mail
